The Enhanced Programme

The Enhanced Programme includes one-to-one lessons which supplement the language skills lessons and communication skills workshops of the Octorial Programme creating a highly effective, intensive programme where students make rapid progress.

The Enhanced Programme enables you to tailor the course to fit your own unique requirements whilst benefiting from the valuable experience of collaborative work in the group lessons, simulating an authentic international work or study environment. Group lessons develop fluency through natural interactions and build confidence in using the language through targeted exercises. Speaking English in front of an audience is practised through giving presentations and being an active member of an audience.

During one-to-one lessons, tutors work with students to create a personalised learning strategy and set regular goals to ensure maximum progress over the duration of the course. This environment allows students to build their confidence through experimentation with the language whilst benefiting from feedback and constructive suggestions for improvement.

Enhanced Exam Preparation

One-to-one lessons are intensive and focused sessions allowing students to focus on specific areas of weakness alongside a tutor. The tutorials may include in-depth feedback on a mock exam, mock speaking exams, development of the core language and grammar skills or any other area the student wishes to work on. You collaborate with the tutor to create an entirely personalised strategy for achieving exam success.

Enhanced Professional Development

The combination of an intensive programme of study in small groups with additional one-to-one lessons is a highly effective programme for professionals wishing to enhance their career opportunities. Group sessions allow professionals to develop the skills they need to be an effective member of an international work force and provide the confidence and fluency for strong leadership in English. The one-to-one tutorials allow specialisation in a specific field which may include, law, marketing, finance, medicine or engineering. Working alongside a tutor, there are opportunities for professional development skills and CV enhancement to help the transition into a new career.

The Course Content

  • 15 hours of language skills lessons
  • 12.5 hours of communication skills workshops
  • 5 or 7.5 hours of individual lessons

Sessions and outcomes

Language skills lessons

The language skills lessons develop language competency. These sessions provide you with a strong foundation in English and the core skills you need to progress to the next level. The small class sizes of no more than 8 students allow constant interaction with tutors.

Communication skills workshops

The workshops build confidence and fluency. You have the chance to practise public speaking and participate as an active member of an audience. The daily Spoken Performance Workshop develops both verbal and non-verbal communication skills allowing students to become engaging and effective speakers.

Mentored Dissertation

Over the duration of your course you work on a Mentored Dissertation, which is an extended piece of work often involving independent research. The project is tailored to your levels, learning objectives and the length of your course. Tutors monitor and support your progress and set goals with individual students each week.

One-to-one Lessons

One-to-one lessons provide students with the unique opportunity to rapidly enhance the skills and language capabilities gained throughout the day in the Octorial Programme, by focusing on specific areas of interest and individual goals of a professional, academic, or personal nature. A choice of either 5 or 7.5 individual lessons per week can be added to the Octorial Programme.
