Staying in a homestay provides a valuable opportunity to become integrated into London life like a local. Students benefit from the opportunity to practise speaking English in a natural, informal setting. No other students who speak the same language are placed in the family which maximises the time students spend interacting with their hosts. Bonding with local people in this way ensures students feel as if London is also their home.
The homestay experience
Hosts are also able to guide students in such a way that helps them experience an authentic London lifestyle. For many students, returning to the more residential areas of the city can also provide the perfect sanctuary from the bustling streets of London’s city centre.
To become part of a local family is to experience London like a Londoner and it is the best accommodation for students who want the support and enjoyment of a family network when studying away from home. Students find that this living situation leads to increased confidence when communicating in English.
Carefully chosen and regularly visited, all of our hosts are friendly and welcoming with a genuine interest in getting to know people from around the world. Many of our students remain in contact with their hosts long after they have completed the course and left London.
Homestay accommodation is in a single room with twin rooms available on request for those who are travelling with a friend or partner. Rooms with a private bathroom are available for an additional supplement. The maximum number of students staying with a family is usually 3 and students are not placed with other students who speak the same language.
Each room is fully furnished with a bed, linen and storage space. There is a desk in the room or a quiet space in the house for homework. Some hosts will provide a key for the duration of the stay, other may provide a key at certain times.
Students may choose an option for bed and breakfast or half board. The host provides a continental breakfast in the morning. If the half board option is chosen, the host also provides an evening meal. The evening meal is usually eaten with the family and is a good opportunity to practise English. Please let the school know about any allergies or dietary requirements as early as possible so that a host can be found to match the requirements.
All hosts are different and provide a unique insight into living in London. Students with special requests can make a note of this on their enrolment form.
All homestays are situated in pleasant residential areas around London and located close to tube stations and bus stops with links to the school in central London. Residential areas have the benefit of transporting the commuter into suburban calm and creating a nice homely feel just outside of a high paced environment. The short commute to the city from places like West Shepherds Bush or Wimbledon are often greatly enjoyed by Londoners. It is seen by commuters as a chance to socialise and chat with fellow Londoners or take some time to relax, read a book or listen to some music at the start and end of each day.
